Angry Kids Project is honored to present the first solo exhibition in Paris by France-based illustrator Sun Yimeng, titled À la Piscine. The exhibition features a new body of work created specifically for this show, spanning multiple mediums including limited-edition riso prints, acrylic paintings on canvas, and watercolor works on paper.

Two years ago, Sun Yimeng began bringing her sketchbook to the pool. During breaks between swims, she would sit by the water and draw—quietly recording the people around her and the lively atmosphere that filled the space. Over time, “swimming” and “sketching the swimmers” became a joyful ritual woven into her everyday life. The figures in her work are vibrant and distinct: some rest lazily on the poolside, others arrive in small groups with sports bags slung over their shoulders, while a few glide through the water in calm, unhurried strokes.

Sun Yimeng has a gift for capturing details that are ordinary yet quietly exquisite, seen through her own singular lens and rendered in a style unmistakably her own. In her hands, the pool reappears as a world of lightness and motion—full of laughter, energy, and the sound of splashing water—reimagined with fresh texture and sensibility. As she puts it, “A swimming pool is a space where the senses go on a curious journey.” For her, the pool is not merely a scene to reproduce, but a personal field of reflection and feeling. It is a place where one’s relationship with water, and with strangers on the shore, subtly unfolds. Moving through this setting, the artist allows thought and imagination to drift freely—observing, recording, and at the same time letting the everyday open into something playful, unexpected, and quietly wondrous.
