Lushuirou

  • 78 Rue du Dessous des Berges Paris, IDF, 75013 France (map)

This exhibition marks the first solo show in Paris—and in Europe—by emerging artist Lushuirou. It offers a focused presentation of her pivotal recent body of work, Relationships, bringing together a carefully reviewed and distilled selection from the series, including its now out-of-print AP giclée editions. The exhibition also introduces her brand-new 2025 series, Intimacy, shown through original acrylic paintings on wood panels.

Lushuirou is known for her delicate brushwork and finely tuned use of color. In Relationships, she employs the finger as a central metaphor, tracing the subtle entanglements of human connection—its tensions and ruptures, its quiet repairs, its moments of release. Observed up close, her paintings draw viewers into a hazy, ambiguous atmosphere that invites lingering. Beneath palettes that appear soft and harmless, one senses emotions left unspoken: a sting, a consolation, a lingering ache. This way of animating the emotional life of objects recalls Emily Mae Smith’s broom figures, where the everyday is endowed with human feeling—simple forms that open onto expansive reflection and resonance.

Her newly unveiled series Intimacy signals a turn toward acrylic on wood panel as a primary medium. Each work is built through multiple layers of diluted acrylic, repeatedly veiled and refined, until the final image retains the natural grain of the wood— as if the scene has grown outward from the panel itself. Compared with Relationships, Intimacy addresses closeness between people more directly. Two hands appear in each composition, holding a balance that is at once secure and fragile; within a modest scale, the paintings generate striking tension. The surfaces feel both distant and warm, as though touch is simultaneously offered and withheld. Through this series, Lushuirou constructs a sensory universe that is at once lucid and dreamlike—real, yet shimmering at the edge of perception.
